The connectivity between both sides of the Agra Canal and Gurgaon Canal is going to improve soon. The irrigation department likely to complete two bridges by June 30 and the remaining three bridges are scheduled to be operational by September 30.
Five bridges are being constructed across the two canals.
As of now, the Haryana irrigation department is constructing five bridges across the two canals. Of these, four will provide a link between Faridabad on the western side with Greater Faridabad on the eastern side of the Agra Canal and Gurgaon Canal for Sector 76 to Sector 89 being developed by Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA).
While the bridges are being constructed by the irrigation department, the cost of construction is being borne by HUDA. The fifth bridge being built on the Gurgaon Canal at Pratapgarh will provide a link between Sectors 55, 56 and 56-A, Rajiv Nagar, Jeevan Nagar and Pratapgarh colonies.
The irrigation department executive engineer, Sandeep Taneja said work is in full swing on all the five bridges and the department is not going to miss the deadlines.
"The bridge near Sector 56 and the one near Sector 8 are going to be completed by June 30. The work pertaining to laying the slabs has been completed and the approach roads will be made soon. We are in the process of getting approval from the forest department for felling trees coming in the way of the approach roads. It should not take us more than two months to complete these two projects," he said.
As for the remaining three bridges on the Gurgaon Canal feeder, Taneja said work is in progress and it will take another five months to complete them. "One bridge is opposite the road linking Badkhal Morh Chowk to the Bypass Road, the second one is opposite the intersection of Sectors 18 and 17 on the Bypass Road and the third one is opposite the intersection of Sectors 17 and 14 on the Bypass Road. We are likely to complete these projects by September 30," he said.
"The bridges will improve the connectivity between Faridabad and Greater Faridabad. As the Metro rail service in Faridabad will run along the DelhiMathura Road, the residents of Greater Faridabad will also be able to use these bridges to reach the Bypass Road and from there to the Metro rail stations that are situated along the DelhiMathura Road," said NK Singh, a resident of Mawai.
