To augment water supply in the Aravali area, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has decided to set up two ranney wells at Dadasia near the Yamuna riverbed. They will be connected to the water supply lines for this area near the NHPC office on the Bypass Road. The supply will be augmented by four million gallon water per day.

In some of these colonies, the water demand is met by either tubewells or tankers.

The areas to benefit from the additional water supply are Sectors 33, 34, 44, 45 and 46, Green Field Colony and Charmwood Village.

As of now, these colonies are getting scarce water supply. In some of these colonies, the water demand is met either by tubewells or private tankers.

HUDA executive engineer Rajiv Sharma said the land for setting up the two ranney wells has been identified and tenders have been invited for the same. "The work is likely to begin in a month. The work on laying the pipeline for distribution and setting up a booster station is to be done. We are soon going to invite tenders for laying the pipeline. The machinery for setting up the ranney wells has already been purchased," he said.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 54 crore. Sharma said that it will take 18-20 months to complete the project.

The project got delayed as initially it was decided to set up the ran ney wells in Basantpur village.

"The idea was dropped due to the non-availability of suitable land for the purpose. Then Dadasia was chosen," said Sharma.

Welcoming the move, Dheeraj Kumar, a resident of Green Field Colony, said, "It is good that the authorities have realised the problems faced by the residents of this colony and other neighbouring areas. As per the national standards, the average demand of water of an urban consumer is 165 litre per day. If the supply is going to be augmented, it means the demand of over 90,000 additional people is going to be met. This is really heartening."
