Decks are being cleared for the second bridge to improve connectivity between Industrial Model Township (IMT) near Chandawli across Agra Canal and Faridabad city. The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) proposed a four-lane bridge between Sahoopura and Sotai villages that will link IMT to the Bypass Road in Faridabad.
A four-lane bridge has been proposed near Chandawali across Agra Canal that will link IMT to the Bypass Road.
IMT is spread over an area of 1,832 acre of land in Chandawali, Machhgar, Nawada, Sotai and Mujheri villages in Ballabgarh to accommodate 900 industrial units. It is spread over Sectors 66 to 69 and includes some parts of Sector 70 and 71 as per the provision made in the Master Plan. The HSIIDC is the developing agency. It will have industrial units, special economic zone and Transport Nagar besides facilities that include health centre, shopping mall, eateries and banks. The proposal to have IMT was mooted in 2006. However, the actual work began a couple of years ago.
HSIIDC executive engineer DS Bhatti said as the land along the Agra Canal belongs to Uttar Pradesh irrigation department, the bridge is to be built by them and the cost is to be borne by the HSIIDC.
"The UP irrigation department has given us an estimate of ` 7.5 crore for construction of a four-lane bridge that will link IMT to the Bypass Road in Faridabad. The estimate has been sent to the headquarters for approval. As soon as we get the approval, we will deposit the money with UP irrigation department for them to go ahead with the work," he said.
The HSIIDC had proposed two bridges between IMT and the Bypass Road. While one fourlane bridge with an estimated cost of ` 9.2 crore has come up opposite Sector 2, the other bridge has got delayed.
IMT is being developed at an estimated cost of ` 350 crore. More than 550 industrialists have been allotted plots in IMT and some of them have started building their factories there. They need better connectivity.
Bhatti said the idea to have a bridge that provides an important link between IMT and Faridabad by constructing the second bridged on the Agra Canal was shelved for some time as the Haryana Urban Development Authority refused to give their share.
"IMT is a dream project of HSIIDC. It was decided in the larger interest by senior officials of the department to have the bridge by bearing its cost," Bhatti said.
