In view of the low passenger turnout expected during daytime on the Metro rail route via Mangar, the proposed Metro rail link between Faridabad and Gurgaon is likely to be through Mehrauli in Delhi. Senior state government officials discussed the matter with local leaders during the last fortnight.
People travel between Faridabad and Gurgaon only in the morning and evening to reach their workplace and return home. Metro rail service via this route will not be able to meet even its operational cost.
Faridabad Member of Parliament and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Krishan Pal Gujjar also hinted at the same during a Meet the Press programme held recently. He said the new route will be chalked out soon.
The only alternate route to link Faridabad and Gurgaon is via Badkhal and Surajkund. State government officials feel that the Metro route touching tourist resorts, Badkhal and Surajkund, will give a boost to tourism.
“As of now, these two tourist spots are not in a good shape. But there is a proposal to revive them. Since there is no public transport connecting these spots with Faridabad as well as with Delhi and Gurgaon, there are hardly any visitors here. If visitors to these places are assured, the government can think of investing funds to develop these places,” said a state government official.
Gujjar said the Mero rail route via Surajkund is also preferable due to the fact that Manav Rachna International University is situated along the road.
However, this is not clear as yet whether the Metro rail route from Faridabad will go from Badkhal Morh to Ankhir Chowk to Sidhdata Ashram to Anangpur Chowk to Surajkund Chowk to Mehrauli or it will go from Bata Morh to Hardware Chowk to Piali Chowk to the Masjid Chowk along the Peripheral Road to Sainik Colony to Ankhir Chowk.
